Biography
Florian König is an industrial engineer who specialized in mechanical engineering at TU Braunschweig and Linköping University. He received his PhD at Hamburg University of Technology, Institute of
Microsystems Technology, in 2013. During approx. 10 years in various product management roles in the medical device industry, Dr. König wondered why sustainability did not yet play a major role in customers' purchasing decisions there.
With his move to the Life Sciences industry at Eppendorf in 2021, he was able to dedicate himself professionally to the topic of sustainability. There, Dr. König has helped to set Eppendorf's starting point for more sustainable consumables with the Eppendorf Tubes® BioBased. During this project he initiated a life cycle analyses that, among other things, investigated and quantified the factors influencing the switch from fossil-based to bio-based raw materials. The BioBased Consumables from Eppendorf are now nominated as one of the top 3 finalists for the German Innovation Award 2024.
