Lecture description

Mining operations are characterized by spacious and fast-changing environments. Successful execution of the load-and-haul mining process between multiple autonomous machines requires network connection between the process participants. Conventional network systems rely on a centralized network backbone to coordinate communication. However, maintaining centralized network infrastructure in the progressing mine site is costly and labour-intensive. Additionally, the required connection to a centralized system is a single point of failure. Therefore, we have developed a system for direct, decentralized and independent communication between process participants leveraging the properties of multiple radio communication technologies to enable interaction of a fleet of mobile mining machinery.
