Unification for intuitiveness versus differentiation for unique experience

Particularly on the construction site, operators use vehicles of different manufacturers and classes. Uniform interfaces that are consistent in the use of symbols and in their structure help to avoid operating errors. On the other hand, there is an understandable interest in selling added value and unique brand experiences with outstanding solutions that significantly differ in the competition.
In the VDMA MiC 4.0 workgroup, we have been working on a uniform symbol for the quick-cuppler function. An exemplary story for a coordinated approach in a task force of different OEMs. The presentation tries to find a borderline between HMI features that benefit strongly from uniformity and HMI features that are particularly suitable for a distinguishable usability and user experience.
